什么是GBIC光模块?

GBIC光模块目前已经用得越来越少,但它也曾经因为其可支持热插拔的特点受到许多大厂商的青睐,并被广泛地应用。
GBIC光模块相关概念:

GBIC是Giga Bitrate Interface Converter的缩写,是将千兆位电信号转换为光信号的接口器件。GBIC设计上可以作为热插拔使用。GBIC是一种符合国际标准(SFF-8053 协议)的可互换产品。采用 GBIC接口设计的千兆位交换机由于互换灵活,在市场上占有较大的市场分额。
GBIC光模块的发展:

GBIC模块,曾经广泛的用于交换机,路由器等网烙产品,如我们熟悉的Cisio,北电等厂商,它们的老式的交换机,路由器设备都曾广泛的采用 GBIC模块。正因为GBIC模块与老一代的1X9封装的模块相比,有着非常明显的优势。其所在的优势正是由于其可支持热插拔的特性,使得GBIC产品可 以作为一个独立的模块。这样一来,用户使用GBID光模块过程,可以方便的更新维护光模块以及故障定位。

然而,随着网络的不断发展,对光模块的要求的不断提高,GBIC模块的缺点也逐渐显现出来。主要的缺点就是:个头太大,导致业务板光口密度较小,板卡上无法容纳足够数量的GBIC,无法适应网络迅猛发展的趋势。 SFP光模块的出现与发展也成为一种必然。
